My name is Mariana, I am 21 years old and I have 3dogs. I grew up with dogs and throughout my life, I have had 10 of them. I have experience both with young and old dogs and have dealt with medical conditions like cancer, parvovirus, hip dysplasia, sebaceous cysts and psychological trauma. Additionally, we have had multiple specimens of birds and fish. I also grew up with chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, pigs, cows, a Garrano mare and other dogs at my grandparents’ house. I volunteered at the association where my family adopted the dogs from (in my hometown of Barcelos) and at a more well-known Lisbon-based dog shelter called União Zoófila. Moreover, when I was living in London I volunteered at a non-slaughter farm, in which I took care of 1 pig, 1 tortoise, 1 cat, 4 donkeys, 4 ferrets, 5 ducks, 6 goats, 6 rabbits, 10 guinea pigs, 20 sheep and 30 chickens. Precisely because I love all kinds of animals, I lead a vegan lifestyle. I have an undergraduate degree in Comparative Studies from the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Lisbon (FLUL). Furthermore, I am a passionate environmentalist and was the President of the Ecological Society of FLUL. I am currently writing my dissertation for a postgraduate degree in Comparative Literature at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) belonging to the University of London.
